Biography

 

Merav Shinn Ben-Alon is an artist and writer working across painting, drawing, installation, artist books, and video. Her multidisciplinary practice engages with traces of trauma, memory, gender, and the archive through processes of fragmentation, reconstruction, and storytelling.

Alongside her visual practice, she has published three artist books: dBook (2015), Five Legs (2020), and VENICE (2023). Her work has been exhibited internationally at institutions and venues including the Israel Museum, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Mark Rothko Art Centre, NordArt, and Lewisham Arthouse in London, and she has participated in artist residencies in Germany, Latvia, and France, including Cité internationale des arts in Paris.

Shinn Ben-Alon holds a BFA with honors from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem and an MFA with honors from the Interdisciplinary Program in the Arts at Tel Aviv University.

Active since the 1990s, her work has received ongoing recognition and awards. In 2025, she was awarded the Artis Residency Grant for a residency at Cité internationale des arts, Paris.
